what’s Bushwick collective street art?
Bushwick is known as a working class neighbourhood in the north side of Brooklyn, famous for street arts and graffiti. This is where you can find a fantastic range of street art created by artists from all over the world. The entire area is covered in amazing murals and if you walk down from one street to the other you will see some really creative and different art works. Most of the industrial buildings are covered with amazing sprawling art , and some are so unreal that you’ve got to see it to believe it. I am not much of art connoisseur but I was in awe of everything I saw there. You can wander around by yourself or find a guided tour for more in depth information. There are also lots of cute cafes and local bars around the area that served delicious and reasonably priced food and drinks.
How to get there ?
Getting there is very easy, most of the street arts are within a 5-block radius of the Jefferson Street station.The Bushwick Collective is located in Bushwick Brooklyn, just off of Flushing Avenue. which is approximately a 7-8 minute walk from the nearest train Jefferson Street station(L train).
Guided Tour: There are a lot of companies offering guided tour to Bushwick art collective, including ‘pay-what-you-wish tours”. you can also enjoy ” free tour by the foot “ with New York pass. In this free tour they explain the background and history of arts as well as all artists. with free guided tour by foot we were able to explore the best of new York street arts and graffiti on world’s most interesting urban canvases. It was fascinating to learn the history of this area and how it’s immigrant beginning have impacted the graffiti scene that is rapidly shifting.
When to visit: Definitely visit in day light. Free tour by the foot is only on Friday & Saturday at 2.p.m.
Tour Duration: It takes around one an half hour to 2 hours to walk around the whole street while total tour distance is approximately 2 to 2.5 km.
Location: Free guided tour by foot start at out side of raw and fine chocolate shop, 288 Seigel St, Brooklyn, NY 11206 by the Morgan Street Subway Station.
Cost: The New York Graffiti and Street Art Tour is free to take with New York pass. if you don’t have New York pass you can book “Name your own price tour” and you get to decide what, if anything, the tour was worth when it’s done.
Important tips:
- Troutman and St Nicholas area of bush-wick collective have some of the best art.
- For all free and guided tour make sure sure to reserve beforehand.
- Be careful crossing the narrow streets as Troutman and Starr Streets are one way streets.
- Try to plan your visit in earlier day and weekdays as it gets very crowded on weekends and after work.
- If you are travelling in summer, make sure to carry sunscreen , hat and water bottles as it gets really hot .
