Île Maurice (Maurice’s island) as it’s known in French, is a tropical island located in the Indian Ocean famous for its natural beauty and scenic views. Last month I spend beautiful 4 days in this island paradise and tried everything what Mauritius is famous for, from nature hike to chasing water falls, from parasailing to water skiing , from island hopping to exploring the famous nature reserves.
As you arrive at the beautiful and modern Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport, located south of the Capital, Port Louis, you’ll notice that the airport is quite a bit bigger and more organized than airports found on any other island nations. You are greeted by friendly multilingual immigration staff and the wait time is fairly short. Mauritius is one of a few countries where most locals speak French but drive like the British, and this is something you may notice as soon as you exit the airport.
Here are list of my top adventurous things to do once you leave the Mauritius airport!
Hike Tamarind Falls – Located in the South Western part of Mauritius on the cliff of black river, the spellbinding Tamarind Falls, commonly known as ‘Sept Cascades’ is one of the natural wonders of Mauritius. And the best way to explore this green paradisaical location is through a wonderful half day trek. with each fall you cross you will see beautiful scenery and amazing nature setup. Passing behind the spectacular 40 meters waterfall was the one of the best blissful experience I had.
Note: An experience guide is recommended as the hike does involve some tough terrain. Make sure to bring water and insect repellent and wear appropriate clothing for both muddy terrain and small bodies of water.

This highly developed park is known for its 23 coloured earth, six natural waterfalls, the world’s third longest zip line, plateaus, mountains, valleys, craters as well as crater-lakes. The park is also home to tortoises, monkeys, stags, fish and also birds such as the Pink Pigeon, Paille en Queue. You can explore the park on foot or by renting your own quad bike.
visit Île aux Cerfs – Île aux Cerfs is a popular destination for tourists for its water sports and underwater falls. It is located only a short speed boat ride away west of the main island. I highly recommend a day trip sailing adventure to the Ile aux Cerfs to explore the Private Beaches, underwater fall, treetop adventure and water sports with succulent seafood lunch on one of beautiful beaches of the paradise island.
Parasailing : Mauritius is ideal location to do parasailing for a breathtaking bird’s eye view of the beautiful lagoon and beaches of the paradise island. You can parasailing in several different locations in Mauritius. I did my parasailing at Ile Aux Cerfs where a boat transfer to the Island and back is required in order to get access to the island. These are 3 famous location to do parasailing
- Trou D’eau Douce / Ile aux Cerfs (Mauritius central East coast)
- Grand Baie (Mauritius North West)
- Belle Mare (Mauritius East Coast)
Charamel waterfalls : If you hadn’t had your fill of coloured earth or waterfall, check out Charamel and Seven Coloured earth, one of the most beautiful and famous tourist attraction in in Mauritius. The waterfalls are surrounded by lush vegetation of Black River Gorges. You can view the waterfalls from upper deck at the Chamarel Seven Colored Earth reserve, or, can head down the trail to enjoy shallow water swimming at the bottom of the Chamarel falls.
